Light

light

On a moonless night,

Beneath the canopies,

Obscured by the trunks

Reaching for the stars.

Lies an unlit road,

Darkness so thick,

Against the shadowless trees.

Out of nowhere,

Faintness of light,

Stretching as far as the space

Will allow it.

Brighter and brighter,

The stretch of a violin whine,

The howl of a wolf,

It reaches the crest,

The beam exploding forward,

Forcing itself through the grief.

Reaching beyond to the other side,

Then with courage,

It roars over the top,

And continues its descent,

To the other side….

Where the darkness thins out,

The future is beheld,

And the light is no longer needed.
